THE GOOD: Major League Baseball released their latest update on All-Star voting and once again, not a single Rays player is listed among the top-one-third (top 5 for infielders, top 15 for outfielders) at their position. Last time we talked about this we talked about how none of the Rays deserved to be mentioned. But 1) that is overly simplistic because there are a lot of players who are listed who do not deserve to be mentioned; and 2) that was before Evan Longoria erupted over the last few weeks. Over his last 15 games, Longoria is 22-58 (.379) with 6 walks (.431 OBP), 8 home runs, 3 doubles, and 20 batted in. Amazingly, last night, Nick Vincent walked Brad Miller making Longo the tying run. The coach came to the mound for a visit, left Vincent in, and one pitch later it was a tie game. I’m not saying Longoria should be starting the All-Star game. Manny Machado is a legit MVP candidate. But Longoria is definitely one of the three best third basemen in the AL. He is also a big name. He should be getting more All-Star votes than Nick Castellanos or Mike Moustakas.
Also, can we talk about how far Corey Dickerson hit his home run? ESPN claims it would have only gone 442 feet which would be just the 6th longest home run of the year for a Rays player. I’m throwing up the bullsh*t flag on that one. That thing was not only going to hit the back wall but it had a chance to clear the signs on the back wall if it doesn’t hit the D-ring.
THE BAD: Steven Souza had to be taken out of the game with an injured hip he suffered diving for a ball. After the game he said he didn’t think it was too bad. Those type of comments have a tendency to turn into trips to the DL. So we’ll see. The entire thing just looked weird and it is still not entirely clear how he got hurt which is perhaps the most worrisome aspect of all of this. Was it an injury that was just waiting to happen? THE TELLING: Jake Odorizzi was ejected arguing balls and strikes. He was being taken out of the game anyway, so it seems he just wanted to get his money’s worth…After dropping to 22-30, the Rays have suddenly won 8 of their last 10 games and are now 30-32, tied with the Yankees for 4th place in the East, 6.5 games behind the Orioles. - Classy move by the The Rays. Friday’s “Pride Night” game is being dedicated to the victim’s of the Orlando nightclub shooting. All tickets are $5 and all proceeds are going to the a fund set up for the victims’ families. It will likely be one of the biggest crowds of the year and the Rays have said they may need to untarp the upper deck. [MLB]

That HR was mammoth. I think it could have hit anywhere from the lower third of the Suncoast sign to the upper third of the Hancock Bank sign. Is the exit velocity available anywhere?
