The Rays 2012 Opening Day Roster And Projected Lineup

Now that we know the opening day roster, let’s take a look at the likely lineups versus lefties and righties. We will have the 40-man roster and opening day payroll later this morning…

Notes on the opening day roster…

• Kyle Farnsworth was placed on the DL and replaced by Josh Lueke.
• We are including BJ Upton here because he is only expected to miss a few games. The assumption is that Stephen Vogt will be sent back to triple-A once Upton is activated. But there is a small chance that Joe Maddon falls in love with idea of having three catchers as it would give him greater flexibility later in games. If Vogt stays, Elliot Johnson would have to be designated for assignment.
• The only true platoon in the lineup appears to be at catcher, but Joe Maddon will continue to use match-ups elsewhere, especially at second base and shortstop.
